Recently, the number of people trying to learn chess has increased. Chess is interesting and entertaining so long as players understand the principles and theories that guide the game. For new players, the following are common mistakes to avoid:
1. Playing Too Many Moves with Pawns
Using too many pawns to make moves early in the game gives the opponent an increased advantage to take greater control of the chessboard. Every pawn move should be made strategically, and beginners should avoid moving too many pawns, which delays the development of Bishops and Knights chess pieces and leaves an exposed King in the center of the board.
2. Moving the Queen Out Too Early
Since the queen is the most powerful piece on a chessboard, many beginners try to bring it into action as soon as possible. However, bringing the queen from the back when the game has just begun compromises the chances of a player as a queen should remain well protected throughout. Moving the queen to vulnerable positions gives opponents a chance to attack her while developing their pieces, giving them a great advantage.
3. Maintaining the King at the Center
Most beginners like to keep the king in the center, which isn’t recommended because most chess moves occur at the center. When the game is still in the early stages, players should ensure their king is moved to safety to a corner away from the center of the chessboard. The focus should be on moving central pawns to the center of the chessboard to fight over control. Removing the king from the chessboard's center gives a player a strategic advantage over their rivals.
